Gentle, Family-Centered Care for Bowel & Bladder Challenges

Pelvic floor dysfunction in children is more common than many families realize.

Issues such as constipation, bedwetting, urinary urgency, accidents, or painful toileting can affect a child’s comfort, confidence, school participation, sleep, and overall well-being.

At Thrive 4 Life Physical Therapy, we provide compassionate, age-appropriate pediatric pelvic rehabilitation focused on helping children feel safe, supported, and successful throughout the healing process.

Treatment is gentle, collaborative, and designed to help both children and parents better understand how the body works and how healthy routines can improve symptoms over time.

What Treatment May Include

Treatment is individualized and may include:

  • Education for children and caregivers
  • Healthy bowel and bladder habit training
  • Scheduled toileting routines
  • Breathing and pelvic floor relaxation exercises
  • Posture and toileting position education
  • Gentle movement and coordination activities
  • Biofeedback and visual learning tools when appropriate
  • Abdominal massage instruction for caregivers
  • Guidance for hydration, fiber intake, and healthy routines
  • Positive reinforcement and behavioral strategies

Our goal is to make therapy feel supportive, encouraging, and empowering — never stressful or intimidating.

Our Approach

Gentle, Child-Focused Care

Pediatric pelvic rehabilitation is very different from adult pelvic therapy.

Evaluations are external only and focus on understanding:

  • Bowel and bladder habits
  • Posture and breathing
  • Movement patterns and coordination
  • Toileting routines
  • Diet, hydration, and lifestyle factors

We work closely with both the child and caregivers to create practical, manageable routines that support long-term success.

Parents and caregivers are an important part of the healing process.

We provide education and coaching to help families:

  • Understand how bowel and bladder function works
  • Build healthy home routines
  • Reduce toileting anxiety and stress
  • Support children with consistency and confidence
  • Navigate school, sports, travel, and daily activities

We also collaborate with pediatricians, gastroenterologists, and urologists when needed to provide coordinated care.

Children with bowel and bladder dysfunction are often dealing with more than just “bad habits.”

Muscle coordination, nervous system regulation, posture, stress, and learned holding patterns can all contribute to symptoms.

Specialized pediatric pelvic rehabilitation helps children:

  • Learn healthy body awareness
  • Relax and coordinate pelvic floor muscles
  • Build confidence around toileting
  • Reduce discomfort and anxiety
  • Develop lifelong healthy habits
